Manage and Monitor Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp Environments

Pentasys Corporation chooses Goliath Technologies to manage and monitor Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp Environments

Pentasys Corporation, a full service IT consulting company specializing in Citrix solutions, cloud computing, and managed services, announced they have chosen Goliath Technologies’ MonitorIT solution as a means of extending their managed service offering around Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp environments.  MonitorIT will replace N-able as the standard technology for monitoring their customers’ virtual and physical environments, including virtual hosts, physical servers, networks, and desktops as well as Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop deployments.

“Our business is enabling organizations to evaluate and implement Virtual Desktop Infrastructure from Citrix.  Certainly, managing virtual environments is of critical importance but at some level these virtual environments rely on physical infrastructure such as servers, networks, and storage.  Therefore, it was very important to have a product that could monitor all physical and virtual elements that ultimately impact the performance of a Citrix XenDesktop or XenApp deployment” said Steve Harms, CEO of Pentasys.  He continued, “We were using N-able and also evaluated other monitoring products such as SolarWinds, Zenith, Kaseya, and GoToManage.  These other technologies either had limitations in terms of the completeness of what they monitored, ease of use, or cost.  The Goliath Technologies MonitorIT product had all of the functionality we were looking for, is very easy to use, and is at a cost that fits our business model.”

Goliath Technologies offers one of the only comprehensive virtual monitoring solutions in the market today.  Offering the flexibility of an agent or agentless approach, MonitorIT allows the user to collect deep diagnostic data about applications that run on virtual machines, VDI deployments like Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp, and the physical infrastructure that support these types of environments.

“As Chief Technology Officer, one of my key requirements was that this product didn’t create silos of visibility,” said James Price, CTO of Pentasys.  “It was a technical imperative for the solution to have the ability to comprehensively and completely monitor the entire infrastructure. Deploying Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp can be challenging and we must be able to proactively monitor to avoid potential difficulties.  If an alert occurs, we have to be able to determine causality, remediate issues quickly, and provide our customers with reports that show objective evidence of the root cause of any performance degradation.  Most products are strong in one area but don’t have well balanced functionality across the infrastructure and therefore it makes customer support difficult, or in some cases impossible.  MonitorIT collects metrics on the performance of Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp, but also the surrounding infrastructure that supports it.”

“We are quite pleased that Pentasys has chosen our technology over some of our competitors,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman of Goliath Technologies.  “Our product management and development teams have been working diligently over the past year to add enhancements specifically to support Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp deployments.  This, coupled with our Service Provider pricing seems to be making a competitive difference.”

Goliath Technologies is focused on systems management software for IT organizations that address the evolving challenges of managing physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. These hybrid environments require solutions that are scalable, cost effective and easy to use. Many legacy technologies are difficult to deploy and expensive to maintain and, as a result, are not well suited for this new paradigm. Inexpensive or free technologies, though easy to deploy and use, lack enterprise functionality and scalability. Both are slow to add features that are required to support physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. At Goliath, we provide products that fill this gap with the right combination of scalability and functionality at a reasonable cost that embrace the complexities of virtualization and cloud computing. Headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, our software is used by customers worldwide including ADP, ING Direct, Mindshift, Thomson Reuters and Shell. Global customers join our online user community to share information, solve technical challenges and contribute to our ongoing product development initiatives.
